    just bought new capture card.i have choice to capture in mpeg1,2 or uncompressed avi or windows media.which would be better??

    Depends on what you want to do with the captured file. Uncompressed avi will give huge file sizes but, as it is uncompressed will be best if you want to do any editing. Mpeg1 will be fine if you want to make VCDs, mpeg2 if you want to make DVDs and Windows media if you want to post on the net.

    Quality wise, probably uncompressed AVI, but it will take a lot of hard drive space. Most efficient may be MPEG-2 if you plan to convert it to DVD. Least hard drive space used would probably be WMV or MPEG-1.

    All that would depend on the settings used for each capture choice.

    Thanks.I always keep it on DVD,so I t will go with uncompressed AVI then in Premiere to edit
    and encode it.

    That would work. If you get missing frames try huffyuv lossless compression during capture and use a separate drive from the OS.

    But compare to uncompressed AVI, huffyuv loses more color highlights and shadows than MJPEG.
