So what color scheme do you go with when you buy new tech stuff? Black? White? Silver? Custom colors?
Generally I go black or I don't really care. I did get a new Wii which is all white and does stick out a bit but I like the contrast a little![]()

I used to prefer the usual beige/cream looks and a general businesslike no frills look when it came to computers. But for the one I´m currently buliding I went for a more modern look (yet retaining certain "seriousness" so no modding here, it´s for work anyway) so I have a silver/black case, silver/black keyboard, s/b mouse and a silver LG CRT monitor wich goes well with the rest but I´m planning to replace it with a LCD (that can be either black or silver)
Therefore, looking at the voting options I´m a bit puzzled...do I vote for SILVER, do I vote for BLACK or do I vote for both? -
Black, but it's getting harder and harder to find it. Some manufacturers (I'm looking at you, $ony!) even chage extra for the exact same product but in black instead of that gawd-awful silver that everybody makes now....
I want something dark and fairly non-reflective that won't cast/catch glare and distract.
As for the Wii, I'll wait until the black (& of course obligitory silver) models hit shelves sometime in the spring (already available in Japan) and pick up a black one. Though I may have to wait longer than that because I don't want to pay the extra $50 for the pack-in game that I will never play (Wii Sports). Nintendo originally anounced that the Wii would retail for $200 and have no game. Packin in Wii Sports was a somewhat last minute decision to push the interactive functionality of the new controller and help promote the system to parents who think that video games make kids fat and lazy."To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

Although I like black as a neutral color, my pet peeve is legibility of control labels. I'd prefer the fancy lights only come on with proximity of my fingers.

Computer stuff: black
Audio/Video: black whenever possible but silver is okay too. -
Black, if it's in the front room in plain sight. I would rather my electronic equipment appear unobtrusive.
With computers, black or beige. I just dislike it when one company uses grey for a drive and another uses beige and they don't match. At least black, preferably flat or brushed, seems to mix well with other black devices, even glossy black, without standing out too much. Not too many shades of 'black' out there. -
I prefer black, but don't really care. Most of my stuff is either black or silver (except the iPod and a computer monitor which are both white).

Silver must sell better. I still like black.

Like Xylob stated; I dont want something that reflects light and a flat black doesnt stand out in a low lit room. Even in total dark the mirror finish silver can catch glare of the picture off the TV.
Like edDV stated; silver must sell better. I guess shinny objects are attention holders.
I say at least offer it in black but no go on some and as long as not enough complaints are made to the manufactures it goes on...
I do wonder why the sudden change a few years back. It's still a mystery to me.

I hate SILVER electronics especially video and audio gear that sits next to or on top of your TV etc.
I do have a SILVER item or two because that particular device only came that way and obviously you can't pass up a quality product due to color (at least not when it comes to electronics where really color doesn't matter so much if at all compared to sound quality and video quality etc.)
But just because I will buy SILVER because it is the only option ... doesn't mean I have to be freakin' happy about it LOL
I would probably pay extra for BLACK if that was the only way to get it ... as long as the extra charge was "reasonable" i.e., $5, $10 maybe $20 max more. Although I find it highly retarded that BLACK should cost more

I never gave it much thought. Color has never been on the list of criteria when I'm searching for something. But looking around at my accumilation of items it seems that when given a choice of colors, I choose black.

For hand held electronics.
I was in several design focus groups, that also give away gizmo.
We found out most people will pick up bright color units, or units with LED light. But they will use those bone or cream color units for daily. The over partical designer like us were hoping the consumers pick black that is dirt and stain resistance. But consumers associate black with bad or death. No go there.
For Hi-Fi or TV
Need to pick the color that can blend into the family room, so they won't stand out like eye sore. -
Silver, it's shiney and always looks clean. Black furniture gets dusty and dirty looking quickly.
