Recently i purchased this player to connect to my tv because it has everything i need. The problem is that when i use the hdmi to hdmi connection i can't get any picture or sound- I have a Samsung lcd with a resoultion of 1366x768. The tv recognized the connection since it let me select the input on the tv setup screen but that's about it. I can't get to the player initial setup screen to setup anything since there is no picture displayed on the tv screen. Anybody know why? Is there a hdmi incombability issue with the samsung lcd? The component work fine because i can get to the player setup screen and enabled progressive scan and other stuffs. Any idea why i can't use hdmi between the tv and player? Appreciated any help. Thanks.

There might be a HDMI option in the setup menu of the DVD player that needs to be activated first and to do that you probably have to first hook the DVD player up to the TV via composite, S-Video or component so you can see the setup menu and make the change ... then do HDMI.

I seem to recall someone saying something like this in regards to another DVD player with HDMI. He (she?) couldn't figure out why the HDMI gave no signal but then discovered the setup menu using composite video and it was only when the required change was made in the DVD player setup menu that the DVD player started sending a signal over the HDMI connection.

he is right -- you have to turn it on first - which is a real pain in a custom install and you didnt run any cables

I am not sure i understood ? If i understood correctly you meant to say that i should run the dvd player setup screen player without any cables connected to the tv??? I don't think i can run the setup without seeing a display on the tv . Anyway, when i am using the component cables i can get to the setup screen but the section for HDMI setup is grey-out so i can't enabled it or change anything . I don't know what else to try. Maybe i will try connect the composite and s-video cable to see if i can get the hdmi setup but somehow i doubt it will work. Would welcome anymore ideas. Thanks.

conect both component (or composite) and hdmi ..

switch to component input on tv and set hdmi to on (on dvd)

    switch back to hdmi

Oh believe me i tried that too. With both component and hdmi cables connected to tv at the same time, the tv display flicker in and out every 2-3 seconds but i manage to set hdmi to on and progressive scan to off. Next i turn off both tv & player, disconnect the component cables, leave the hdmi cable connect and turn on tv & player. Still has the same problem . Same error message, something about no signal or mode not support from tv. Don't have a clue what to do next. I don't have another HDTV with hdmi to try to see if the tv is the problem. Both tv & player are brandnew and there are no other problems except with hdmi. Thanks for all the suggestions i received so far

progressive scan should be on - though w/ hdmi you dont have any choice ....

it may be your hdmi cable also ....

it may be a defective dvd player ...

and some hdmi devices just dont work together ,,,,,

Thanks for all the help. I guess i will have to watch movies with the component cables instead. Damn hdmi . I always though that since it's a standard, all hdmi devices should work together just like all dvd player can play dvd. Guess i was wrong.

Yup it is such a great standard that Both Dishnetwork and DirecTv have had hdmi problems with their new Mpeg4 HD DVRs not working via HDMI and all TV sets. I think Vizio is the one that still doesn't work after many s/w upgrades on dishnetworks VIP622 HD DVR and I believe hdmi is much less compatible on the newer DirecTV HR-20. And from what I've been seeing on forums a HDMI switcher is really hit or miss, I could have misinterpreteted what i read on that subject of course.

Don't you just love a universal standard. MPEG and AVI come to mind.

I finally get it to work After trying everything i can think of, i decided to order a different cable from monoprice since i 've heard so many good thing about their cables. The cable arrived today and it just works 8) The hdmi cable i was using before is from Phillips . What a piece of crap and it cost more than the monoprice cable !. Thought i post it just in case someone else run into the same problem. What i don't get it is Phillips is a brandname and it's just a cable right ? so in theory it should work with all hdmi devices. Guess i was wrong. No more cables from Phillips for me.

Phillips cables are not made by Phillips - they are sold mostly at walmart , which tells you something
