  1. I am having problems with sound when burning a SVCD and playing back that with Philips 711 (fw 7.03). The picture is quite clear and works fine but there is no sound until I set the digital sound to PCM and then the sound has terrible(high pitch) noise in it. The bitrate settings are 2350 kbps for picture and 128/192/224 kbps (tried all) for the sound (stereo / joint-stereo). Could someone help with this please?

  2. The firmware is also unfortunately not on flashrom so I cannot upgrade that to 7.12 or 7.22. The mpeg2 files on the cd play quite correctly when using a computer dvd-rom drive.

If you are referring to a harsh, metallic sound then you need to resample your audio at 44.1Khz before you encode it.
SVCD spec calls for 44.1K. Many video editors, when using DV for instance, supply the audio sampled at 48Khz.

    Hope this helps...

  4. Yes, the sound is indeed harsh and metallic. The audio was converted with TMPegc from 48 kHz (original capture from d v) to 44,1 kHz, but do I have to resample it somehow differently?

  5. Yes. TMPGEnc gives the impression that it's converting but it needs a third party program to do this. It will process the audio first then do the video. You'll find an option to select a third party audio resampling prog in the options somewhere. If you can't find it let me know and I'll look. I've used a prog called SCMPX. You tell TMPGEnc where to find it.

What I usually do is to re-render the file with 44.1 K audio output. I use Vegas Video but several other video editors allow you to do this.

  6. Hi,

I downloaded the scmxp, changed the environmental settings of the tmpgenc. I will let you know about the results. Anyway, thank you for the answers so far.

  7. unfortunately the problem still exists? Do I have to change some settings? I am starting to suspect that the fw version of the player cannot play svcd correctly.
    thanks, P

  8. What happens when you use TMPGEnc with SCMPX? Do you see the audio get processed first and then the video. What video editor are you using?

  9. Problem finally solved:
-utilized the SCMPX to resample the audio
-the SCMPX must not be utilized to re-encode the audio
-on 711 one must not utilize 3d analog audio
-connect the audio rca cables from the 711 to the amplifier

Great picture, great audio! Thank you for the help Al.

    BR, P
