I recently purchased a s video cable and sound cable to run from my computer to my tv.
    my desktop is visible.
however when I open Cyberlink (the program I use to view DVD files on the computer)
I can see all the controls on the tv but not the video.
I'm sure I'm just missing something.
    Any advice would be appreceated.
    Thanks, D

Understand "overlay". Read the section in your graphics card manual.

Does the desktop appear in color on the TV or is everything B&W?

the desktop is color, the tv b&w.
funny thing is when I started this I was using a dvi to hdmi cable and the tv was color.
however I switched to s-video cable and lost color.
I exchanged the dvi cable because the cost of an s-video cable is about 1/4 the cost.

Color problems with SVideo + TV are often misconfigured PAL/NTSC settings - check the advanced options in your video settings

  8. 1/4 the cost and poorer quality picture with SVideo vs HDMI and the headaches. Is it really worth it? IMHO if it works I don't fiddle just to save a few bucks.

Question, How long is the Svideo cable? Is it a good quality cable or a low cost cable that can cause signal problems?

One other thing I would look for a DVI to HDMI setup if you go back to that that has a place to connect to audio at the DVI end and not have to run a audio cable to the TV.

I know on my TV that I can sure see the difference if I do a AB comparison between SVideo and Component for example. That is feeding the TV from a Pioneer DVD recorder that has Component or Svideo or Composite.
