I have put on Win XP and at the moment have installed Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum. However, it is not good for making VideoCds. Earlier when I had Win ME, I was using Cequadrat's WinOnCD to mae VCDs. However, XP does not support WinOnCD and hence I am getting inclined to use Nero.
Questions:
(1) I want to get rid of Easy Cd Creator but want to retain DirectCD as I have a few CD-RW discs which I have formatted thru it?
So, can DirectCd and Nero co-exist at the same time on my system or not.
(2) Also, if they can, how can I just install DirectCD without installing Easy Cd Creator. The program installer does not a
allow me to do a custom installation?
(3) Also, if I cannot use Nero and DirectCd together, does Nero have its own program for formatting CD-RW discs

WINONCD 3.8 POWER does work with XP.
I have got WinOnCD 3.8 PE working. There is a patch at: http://www.winhelpline.com/download/download.php?id=336 The instructions are in german, but basically you have to install WinOnCD, copy the files into the place it says, and then restart. DO NOT restart until you have copied the files.
It works fine, but Direct CD 5, and BackMeUp still won't work.
OR TRY THIS
Follow the instructions below to download the zip file. I think it is called winoncd.zip (not sure). It is only a few K.
Install WinOnCD 3.8PE. Don't reboot.
Copy the two driver files into [windowsxpdirectory]\system32\drivers
(or this would be *:\windows\system32\drivers)

nero 5.5 and above works fine on xp, cd creator 5.1 platinum works fine and if you have 5.0 you can get the free upgrade from roxio. I have both and have had no problems.

Correction to my previous post - WINONCD 3.8 Power is unstable in XP environment.
Newest Nero is fine. -
I had nothing but problems with Roxio ECDC5 Platinum on Win XP and that includes the XP updates installed exactly as they spell out on the web site. It basically removes all CD/DVD writers from my system causing me to use the System Restore to go back in time and recover them. They install drivers that kill the system and they do not remove them using the uninstall routine. Calls to their tech support resulted in "wait for some more updates, we're still working on it". So, I went back to Nero 5.5.6.4 and it plays just fine. However, InCD does not install or support Win XP which is what you are looking for. I get by using the HP (Stomp/Veritas) DLA (stands for drive letter access) which integrates into the MyComputer and Windows Explorer for drag 'n drop burning to disc.
BTW- the built-in version of DirectCD in Win XP works okay as long as you're willing to use more manual methods but they do have prompting that directs you.
