  1. I've just burned my first few VCD's with Nero 5.5. I used tmpgenc to encode using their VCD template. Playback is fine when I view the created MPEG file on my computer, but after burning with Nero and watching on my Awia DVD player the quality gets very bad after about 40 minutes of a 62 minute file. Quality is good at the begining, but gets very blocky and out of synch near the end. This has happened on both of the VCD's that I burned, starts good and then ends bad! Can anyone ofer any advice? I'm going to try some other burning programs, but could it be the encoding, remember it looks good on the computer. I was converting from a 700MB Divx file and used virtual dub to split it into two parts prior to converting with tmpgenc, so in reality I was converting from a 350MB divx file.
    Thanks

  2. Hey tomsmyname, I've been having the exact same problem, even on files that i recieved from people already in mpeg format. The first half and a little more looks great and i was really impressed and then it seemed to slowly get more choppy and adventually its too hard to watch. The only thing i can think of is maybe slowing down the burning process but i have no idea if that will work, if you are able to fix the problem e-mail me at dst_pierre@hotmail.com if you have time. thanks.

  3. This is a symptom that indicates that your DVD player is having difficultly reading your brand of CD-R/W media. It generally gets worse towards the outer edges of the disc.

Several people in the past have offered hypotheses on what causes this specific phenomenon (?heating, periphery of the disc more difficult to read?) but the solution is clear.

You will have to experiment with different brands of CD-R media to find one that works better. Often CD-RW works better in these cases.

If you play on purchasing a new DVD player, be sure to buy one that is rated to play CD-R and CD-RW media EXPLICITLY. VCD or SVCD compatibility does not mean the same thing.

    Regards.
