I was in Hong Kong and Beijing recently and bout some VCD's. I can't play them on my computer. Is there a reason why I can't play Asian made VCD's on my computer? Are they coded so that American made computers can't play them?
This is the message I get from Windows Media player.
Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported.

Why dont you try a DVD Player Software or if you dont have a DVD-Rom then go download QuickVCD Player at http://www.download.com thats should help a bit and VCD dont have special codeing protection

I have come across some queer VCD produced in Hongkong. They can be played on any normal standalone VCD player but won't play on a computer. The directory listing is completely blank. Most software DVD/VCD players cannot detect the disk. It can be duplicated using CD copy. There is however, only one software player that I know of that could detect and play such a disk. It is STHVCD or STHDVD from http://www.herosoft.com.
Hope this could be the case.
