    Hi,
I am having a big problem here, Hope you guys can help me out. Ive got a movie which is arnd 824mb and if i over burn i am sure i wont be able to watch the last few mins of the movie.
Therefore i used a program called ezsplitter. It divided the movie into 500mb and 300mb and its in .mpg format. So i went on to nero6 and tried burning the movie. But first they said the file is not in the correct format therefore nero will convert it into another format. Then nero encodes and it takes around 50mins for a 500mb movie, after that a box appears saying Size on CD is 700mb, and the movie which was 500mb became 8,000,000kb i cant remember the exact value but its sure to be more then 800mb i guess. So its 8gb? omg. PLease help me out, i am working on this for a week and cant do anything useful. I do not really understand how to use virtual dub to split the movie. Thanks for ur time oh yeah, i tried burning CD onto VCD format

First, what format is it presently? VirtualDub is mainly for AVI, not MPEG. If it's MPEG, then TMPGEnc is one program you can use to split it. Cuttermaran is a freeware editor that may do better. If you want to use the VCD format, then look to 'What is' VCD to the upper left. <<<<<< This will show you what's needed by way of format.

The next choice is SVCD, though not as compatible as VCD, but a little higher quality and is still good for a CD. I'm assuming you aren't able to convert it to DVD. You can also look at the SVCD specs to the upper left. <<<<<<

If the video is VCD or SVCD compliant, then Nero shouldn't re-encode it. Or if it is, don't let it re-encode.

TMPGEnc is a good VCD encoder and it's freeware for that. VCDEasy is a good authoring program for VCD format.

The main thing is to get it to a compatible VCD or SVCD format. Then all you have to do is split it and author or burn as needed. Drop it into Gspot and post a screenshot if you are lost. Blank out the title if you want.

IMO, Nero is fine for burning, but not encoding. There are better methods out there.

what format is the movie in???? some movie file formats like svcd can burn 824mbs onto a 700mb cd without any overburning, because they use a differerent burning mode with less error correction.

Currently, the format of the movie is (moviename)xvid.mpg & (moviename)xvid.avi (Ive got 2 movies to burn). So i use Cuttermaran to split the movie. And burn it using Nero? and when they ask to convert it to a format before burning what should i do?

  5. The actual name of the file has nothing whatsoever to do with the true file type. Open in Vdub or Gspot and give the actual parameters of the file. Most likely both are Xvids.

If re-encoding is necessary, do not do it with Nero. Anything else would be a better choice.
