PCIe and AGP?

im looking at upgrading again but i dont want all new hardware just mem cpu and mb.. my question is that all or most of the new mb say PCIe and i do know what it is.. but what i dont know is if an AGP card will fit.. i was looking at a few boards and it shows 3 to 4 pcie slots 3 short ones and one that looks like the old AGP with the clip and all.. it very deffinatly says its a pcie slot..

will an agp card work in that slot? it sure looks the same.

If it's a PCI-E motherboard, then no, a AGP video card won't work.

You can find a few 64bit motherboards that still have a AGP slot, but they won't be PCI-E or Nvidia N-force4.

bummer.. i want to keep my current video card.. its not the best card but its all i need.. its the ATI AIW 8500. not the DV still works great.

are then any sugestions out there. im prolly gonna go with the athlon fx 3000 chip. i know there are faster but ill just OC that one. on board audio isnt an issue.. i have the live 5.1 plat card. im still on ide ata133 HDs

so all i really want is a good mobo that will have good OC features will work with my AGP card and is reliable.

I would go with the Nvidia chipsets for AMD 64 CPUs as they seem to perform the best. The VIA chipset MBs can't be overclocked as much. (Besides, I don't like VIA ) The Nvidia Force3 250 is a good chipset, if you don't want to go to PCI-E)

EDIT: I should mention, as you will hear it anyway, that AGP MBs are getting harder to find, especially with 64bit CPU capabilities. Before you decide for certain on this route, you might look into the PCI-E motherboards, even if you have to give up your AGP video card.

There are also reliable rumors that the board will have a riser/daughter card to allow you to upgrade the socket to the next gen AMD chips (M2 ?) along with ddr2.

And ASRock is owned by (part of?) ASUS, so hopefully the quality is there.
