    Hello All -

I am new here so if I ask my question in the wrong place or just simply ask a bad question please let me know.

I'm having a kid in less than 2 weeks, and I had to pick up a camcorder. After some research, the best bang for the buck with staying cheap was the Panasonic PV-GS35. I simply hated the software and use Nero Express which has NeroVision. I captured the video right to the mpeg-2 format and used the app to create a menu as well. Everything went fine and burned fine, however it only plays in the DVD drive that it was burned on. I'm using Sony media DVD-R. I have an older DVD-R player in my family room that simply won't play this DVD. I don't think it is the media because I have burnt other things on this media that does play in that player.

Any suggestions of what I may be doing wrong and/or maybe what the best way to use my cam and NeroVision would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. the mpeg-2 format you saved it as may be SVCD which wouldn't be compatible with your player. You may have to go back and do everything over again and save as dvd.

He means "did you encode your MPEG-2 to DVD-standard resolution and bitrate?" Your DVD player may not support nostandard resolution and bitrates.

If you have no idea what that means download and run GSpot on the file your camera produces and get the results back to us for analysis.

I do advise for the future that you consider buying other media. I have decided that if I buy anything except Verbatim, I am asking for trouble. Anything made by Taiyo Yuden is good and my understanding is that they make a lot of Verbatim media.

kschang's suggestion to run Gspot is excellent. Also, try to look at the contents of the DVD you burned.
    1) Do you see the directory VIDEO_TS? If not...
    2) Do you see either the directory MPEGAV or MPEG2? This means you have SVCD. VIDEO_TS means you have DVD.
The output of Gspot will help us to know what your disc is like.

I suggest you read "What Is DVD" on the left.
