  1. I'm fairly new to all of this and I've made a few movie dvd's. Usually I need to convert to mpg2 first using something like tmpgenc or divxtodvd, and then I use author tools like dvd architect, or tsmpgenc dvd author, and it seems like no matter which programs I use, at some point during a movie I'll be watching it, everything is going swimmingly, I'm very happy with all my work, and then boom, it'll jump to like 5 minutes ahead or so in the movie. Ruined disc.

I can hit rewind on the player and stop just after the point where the skip is to watch it, but going past it results in a skip again.

With the amount of time it takes to encode movies, burn em to disc, etc. it becomes really annoying after not very long.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi NukeyDoo,

This sounds like a classic case of bad media.

What discs are you burning too? (Brand & actual type, e.g. Ritek G05).

    This will help:

There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

  3. Thank you for the reply. I read the info you pointed me to, and subsequently the links it pointed to as well.

I am using Maxell MXL RG03 disks, as reported to me by the Nero Tool, which this brand is listed as high quality according to the list on http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

The interesting thing is, if I look very very closely, almost not visible, I can see tiny dots in the dye, kinda like the 3rd image from the left on that page, but I'm thinking the one's in theimage, the author meant would be bigger than these. I also ran the disc through Neros Scandisk tool and it shows the surface scan is 100% good.

It definately IS something to do with either the media or disc though, because I viewed the authored dvd in WinDvd at the parts that are screwed up in my standalone, and it plays fine.

    I'm stumped

    It could be

    1. The quality of the media
    2. The ability of your player to read burned discs
    3. Compatability issues between your player and this brand of disc
    4. Compatability between your burner and the media
    5. Choice of format (-R vs +R)

Compatability issues can arise regardless of the quality of the media.
