Hi mikayd,
Welcome to the forums.
It's quite a simple task. I use Premiere Pro 1.5, so the description is based on that:
1) Set up your clip in the timeline - I'm using the start of a kart race as an example:
2) Then razor at the frame that is to be the last one before you want the video frozen. In the example, let's say you want to freeze as the lights go green - razor at the last frame containing the yellow light. Make a note of the time on the timeline, e.g. 00:04:20 (4 seconds, and 20 frames) - you'll need it later.
With the "Timeline" window active, press "C" to select the Razor Tool.
3) Decide how long you want the video to freeze for. Move the timeline position marker (the red line with the blue handle at the top) so that it's x seconds on from the razor point. Razor at this new time - this will give you a section that's your chosen x seconds long:
4) Right-click on the short segment where you want the video to freeze, and select "Frame Hold". Tick "Hold On", and select "In Point" (this is the first frame of the short segment - the first frame with the green lights). Also tick "Deinterlace" - this is to avoid interlace lines on the frozen image when displayed on a TV - not needed if only watching on PC.
5) Set the in point (the start frame) of the section after the short segment to make the video flow as you want it to. In your case, this will be the very next frame - i.e. 00:04:21, based on the time taken in step 2 above.
Do this by moving the segment (where the video restarts) to the right so that a gap of at least the length of the frozen segement is made. Double-click on the segment where the video continues to play - this will put it in the "Monitor" window.
You can move the timeline in the "Monitor" window by dragging it, or the cursor keys move one frame at a time for accuracy.
Clicking on the "Set In Point" button will move the black left bracket to where you've put the timeline marker in the "Monitor" window. Once set, just move the segment back to the left so it butts up agains the frozen segment.
The above will give you the basic principle - play and learn so you can achieve what you need.
Finally, check out www.wrigleyvideo.com/videotutorial for an excellent site with free Premiere tutorials, and also for other Adobe products too.
Good luck...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
Carpe diem.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.
