I was trying to find out if this product is usefull for making vcds from an analog source or if the capture format won't support vcd format. I have a 200.00 credit at buy .com wanted dvc2 but they don't carry it.Would I be wasting my money on the hollywood bridge or will it work for me?

  2. if you already have a firewire card installed and are used to capturing from DVcam, then I say go for it I have one, and analogue captures converted to DV with this are amazing quality especially if it comes from a good source such as digital tv. When u finish capturing, just run it through VDub to edit out any adverts, and frameserve to TMPG, and you get great VCD results. The only drawback with DV is filesize, so make sure you have and NTFS OS such as win2k or XP, and a nice large HDD. Also beware if you have a VIA KT-133 chipset on your Mobo, as the it will have some problems processing interrupts correctly, and you may experiance lockups or crashes. If you have a mac, you'll have no problems

  4. Usually you will get perfect reproduction of any vhs material you put in, though if you have an old tape or a weak signal, the unit may loose v-sync, with some strage results. To get round this you'll need a TBC or timebase corrector, which will also help get you good colour reproduction. Sofar I havent run into this problem myself, but I have read reports of others needing to do this.

  5. I say buy it them sell it on ebat then use the money to buy the dazzle 2 at http://www.shopharmony.com/ they sell the dazzle 2 for $229.00 I seen people bid on the dazzle up to $260.00 on ebay. You can get the Dazzle 2 if you sell the holly wood bridge on ebay you will break even or make $20.00 profit

  6. I am not a Dazzle fan. I've owned many of their products and am not impressed.

For analog-to-DV conversion, I'd recommend the Sony DA2 over the Dazzle Hollywood Bridge. I own the DA2 and it is perfect. You can find it for about $300.

For analog-to-MPG2, I'd recommend the ADS USB Instant DVD over the Dazzle2. It can be had for $160.
