I have a video file that originated as a PAL broadcast, but that has been squashed horizontally well past normal; after burning, my widescreen TV can only stretch it so it covers about half the width of the screen.

If I can stretch it, obviously the quality will suffer, but better a lower PQ than the distortion I have now. Is there anything out there that will do the job? Thanks.

Can you put up a screenshot so we can see how damaged it is ?

Most good editors will have this facility, as does virtualdub and/or avisynth. Which is best depends on where in the process you wan't to fix the problem, and what your budget is.

I wish I could; unfortunately I can't get the image to stick. I've tried this tip:

...but turning off overlays does nothing in WMP 10. Any suggestions?
