I will be driving to Arizona late August. We will be going to the Grand Canyon. Been there before.
My ? is... has anyone been to the Supai reserve, west of the Grand Canyon. The waterfalls are impressive (Havasu*& Mooney falls)*. I'd like to know how the hike to the village was and the hike to the waterfalls. Any other tidbits of info would be appreciated. Thanks. -garman

I was at Canyon De Chelly, Northeastern corner of AZ, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Canyon De Chelly was pretty impressive, only spent about 4 or 5 hours exploring the regular tourist areas on the rim though. There was walking trails where you could go down into the Canyon, horsebacking etc. A lot of Indian ruins.

Ha Ha Ha Ha summer time in AZ Ha Ha Ha Ha

Don't ya know AZ is known for snowbirds? They all bail the state around April or May

    Back to your question.
The only time water is flowing there in the summer time is after a thunderstorm or the colorado river (all year long)

last time I was there it was hotter than hell......I haven't been to hell YET, but I bet it's cooler than AZ in the summer time

FOX news reported just the other day that someone died hiking down there

The time to visit AZ is the WINTER time, but I've been told you have to put up with tons of snowbirds.....I've heard they even have a song they play on the radio there about them
tgpo famous MAC commercial, You be the judge?

So you say there is NO water. Here is a picture of where I'm going. What do you think. I personally think it kicks ass!!!

Yep, I was there years ago and only for a brief visit at Grand Canyon.

I experienced the area as an awesome beautiful sight and as pretty cool there.

You should love the place as beautiful and peaceful as it can be.

I got there from Los Angeles on a light plane in a group of tourists sight seeing, taking photos and talking to others.

I then got to Las_Vegas for sight seeing the casinos there and that night I returned for my hotel at LA.

  7. I live in AZ but have never been to the Supai reserve. July and Aug worst months for heat and humidity in AZ (summer & monsoon season). Will start to cool down a little bit in Sept (just a little bit) and the snowbirds will start to arrive in Oct (at least that is when I notice traffic get much worse). Traffic is pretty good lately because most people leave to someplace cooler for vacation.

Should arrive from Canada to AZ by aug 23. and leave around 3 of september. Not sure how much cooler those days would be. How are the gas prices in the Southwest like. I am paying 90cents CDN per litre or 3.60 CDN per gallon. Thanks -garman

  9. I've seen gas range from $2.32 to $2.39 per gallon this past week, but I think it's been going down (very slowly).

I was in AZ sometime during October as I can remember as quite cool there at Grand Canyon.

  11. I've driven across AZ on 4 separate trips, once on I-8 then I-10, once on I-40, across the corner on I-15 and again on I-10. I like the western part of the state the best. When I made the drive, there were all sorts of saguaro cactus and other desert plants. It's quite scenic. I also stopped at the Meteor Crater, but it's hardly the Grand Canyon...

  12. I lived in Phoenix when I was young and I hated it,I like the northern part of Arizona though(along I-40).Flagstaff is a fun college town...lots of bars.
BTW...everytime I stop in Kingman somebody hits me up for a ride.

  13. There's a prison near I-10, east of Phoenix, if memory serves. I saw signs along the road warning about picking up hitchhikers as they might be escapees. Definitely interesting road signs....

You mean - "Oh look there's someone on the side of the road wearing pink boxers and eating a green bologna sandwich in the middle of the desert, let's see if they need a ride."

Thanks for all the great information. I will be on my way on a few days. Things are packed and ready to go. My biggest stumbling block may be the border patrol to the U.S. BTW just looked at the gas prices in the states. 2.69 per gallon, getting pretty steep! Anyway the trip should be around 6500 miles. Now that sucks financially. Anyway I should grab me a hose and syphen the gas from a parked Ranger vehicle, that should subsidize my trip -Cheers
