I just finished successfully burning a SVCD using Nero and http://www.vcdhelp.com/nerosvcd.htm but when I put it into my home DVD player (Fisher HTD-5201), it does not play past 00.01 (it just stops before it gets a chance to start). I have played VCDs in this player before - is there a chance it is not compatible with SVCDs? I hope not...
Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the DVD Player compatibility list on this site for SVCD support on your player?
Some players require SVCD to be authored with MPEGAV directory instead of the standard MPEG2 directory. I think Nero has an option for this but if not try TSCV with VCDImager instead. -
Thanks, JH. I found the option in Nero to use MPEGAV so I am trying it now and will post the results. But there is also an option there to use either "ENTRYVCDstandard or ENTRYSVD". Should I change that too?

Well, setting Nero to burn with MPEGAV directory did not allow the movie to be played so I will try setting it to use ENTRYSVD...

Again, check the list to make sure you DVD player can play SVCDs. Once you put the disc in, wait a while to see if the DVD player recongizes it as a SVCD.
Try burning with something other than Nero (which sucks at (x)SVCDs; but is ok for VCD). I would recommend VCDEasy + CDRDAO (because it's free). You can d/load the newest verison (1.0.5) from http://www.doom9.org -
I have a Fisher S-1100 and SVCD doesn't play if I burn it with Nero.
If the SVCD is burnt with VCDEasy with the "update scan data offsets" option, then the movie is played perfectly.

I've succeded in playing the VCDHELP sample SVCD image on my stand alone philips702. When I burn and play my own SCVD using Nero, it gets choppy/ jitter after the first 15 seconds.
However, my SVCD disk plays fine in my friends standalone DVD player.
The Philips702 is listed on the VCDHELP database and the owners manual as SVCD compatible. However, the philips web site does not list it as compatible (only VCD compatible)
Why does the sample SVCD work, but my Nero burned one doesn't? I've tried constant bit rate at 2200KBPS and MPEG standard MPEGAV. In fact, when I try to burn the sample MPEGAV file from VCDHELP using Nero, Nero says the stream is not SVCD compliant? Is the VCDHELP sample white paper spec? Is my player not really SVCD compatible despite manual?
Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks -
Still no success. When I run VCDEasy with the CDRDAO option selected, I get this error upon starting the program: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\WnAspi32.dll" not found... This Aspi layer (required by CDRDAO) may be missing or not be installed correctly. CDRDAO support is disabled.
My computer is a new Athlon 1.4 GHz with WinXP Pro.
Any ideaz?
PS - I tried just saving the SVCD rip as a .bin and then extracting the contents of the .bin to a folder and then burning the SVCD folders onto a cdr but that did not play... i was just checking though...
Thanks in advance.
