  1. Hey,

Just out of curiosity, will the images I scan for a VCD slideshow show up better on my tv if I scan them at a higher resolution? Like, if I scan them at 600, they come out as huge files, but will that look better than 200 on the tv? Or will it not make a difference b/c it's just a tv?

    THANKS!

  2. Are you talking lines per inch or dots per inch as far as scanning resolution? Different scannners use different settings. Regardless, seems higher than needed and since they will get encoded again anyway when you make your slideshow all those extra bits will just get dumped. If the software you use to make the VCD supports it import your images in a lossless file type like TIFF. Otherwise you introduce some degree of degeneration if you use JPG, then convent to MPEG. Generally multiple compression steps on the same material results in inferior results. How much and if or not is will be that noticeable depends in part on what bitrate you encode to as well as the resolution of the source material. So there is no set answer. Experiment.

  3. I scan photos at 300dpi and they look awesome...

really...anything over 250 is really not going to give you any more detail.

but..what really matters is what format you are going on..

when I made a slide show in VCD format...it did not look that great as there is not enough detail.

but in SVCD or DVD...they really shine!

  4. Yes if you scan at higher resolution you get more detail (image size bigger also). Of course, it gives you a larger file size but after you adjust image size to fit let say (704x480) you will have a resonable file size with nice quality picture.
