  1. I am trying to burn a DVD using a Plextor PX-716 and experimenting with the laser power settings.

The Plextor will only let me burn ether from a disc (Which has been ripped using Shrink DVD) or an image BIN file.

I created an image file from a ripped Matrix disc and it created the BIN file which I burned a +1% power increase but the Plextor will not read and copy the original disc (for obvious reasons) and the whole point of this experiment was to try for a better burn from the original disc using a +/- 1 to 4% power setting (Burning from a copy defeats the object)

So how do I rip and create a BIN file from an original DVD?
Thanks For any help on his one.

You can't create a bin file from DVD Shrink, but you can create an ISO, which is also a disk image. DVD Decrypter can burn these. I'm not sure I understand your problem. Once you have ripped it to the HDD, it is protection free and can be burned back. How can the drive limit what you burn to image files only ?

If you must have a bin file, then rip with DVD Decrypter, then use ISO Buster to create a bin/cue file.

  4. I am using the Plextor software to burn at a higher or lower power setting it will only read a BIN file or a ripped disc
If I use a burned ripped disc to create this file it is defeating the object of trying to burn from data that has come straight from the source disc.
Instead I am reading data from the ripped disc which may or may not be a perfect
Hope I am making sense here.

Use DVD decrypter ISO->Read to create an image on your HDD. Use Deamon Tools to mount the image, and ISO Buster to convert the contents to a BIN file. (You *might* be able to skip the Deamon Tools step, but you would have to try to confirm.
