I need to know how to save an avi not uncompressed but not compressed either while adding a filter.
I'm adding a filter to a video in virtualdub which is xvid compressed. When I save the avi when video is set to 'direct stream copy' the filter doesnt show up. When I save it when video is set to 'full processing mode' without touching compression the resulting file will be far too big. When I save it when video is set to 'full processing mode' and compression set to xvid the resulting file is worse quality. I am wanting to add the filter and have the file about the same size as the original. How can I do it?
Nevermind I just saved it as xvid with maximum quality and got what I want.

Actually that didnt work that well, the file was still not as good quality and was pretty large.
Any one know how to do what i'm wanting? -
You can't change the content without re-encoding. You would have to recompress with approx the same settings at the original encode to keep the file size the same, however you will lose quality doing this. How much you lose comes down to what settings you use. What do you want to do with the file in the end ?

gunslinger, i was trying to add the resize filter to the video to add black borders because when i played the video in vlc it was squished. So I just decided to use mpeg4 modifier instead
