  1. ok so i got this guy on monday, was very satisfied, did some great captures with it, and now suddenly when i play ANY tape it does this:

    http://nate.metroid2002.com/uber_dead.avi (divx)

    the change in audio level is reflected on the level monitor on the front of the unit. it's definitely the vcr doing it. same picture from s-video and composite.

    tried plugging it into a different outlet - no effect.

    time to call up j&r and ask for a replacement?

    That looks like the heads were getting dirty,the hifi heads suffer dropouts from this,i wouldnt worry about this if the tapes are in good condition,all it takes is a few flakes of tape oxide to clog heads.

  7. weird, wonder why it would randomly start and stop then. whatever, i'll just make them replace it and hopefully not get another dud.
