  1. I have been pleased with my dvd burner/dvd-rom combo that I bought for myself on christmas. I also received Fujifilm dvd-r's to go with my dvd burner. These fujifilms are prodiscF01. I used up a pack of 25 fujifilm prodiscF01 blank dvd-rs and noticed that 60% of them gave me slight glitches in the video quality(blocks appeared for a second or two, sometimes skipped for a quick second and threw the audio off). The dvd's with the glitches appeared to work fine on my computer, but on one of my 6 dvd players is where i first noticed the problem. A second dvd player was able to play the dvd's perfectly, but a third player also had issues.

I decided that maybe my media just didn't work as well on some of my dvd players. I did some searching on dvds and found the Ridata to seem reliable for many. Today I purchased RIDATA 4X DVD-R 4.7GB, Model DRD-474-RDCB50, OEM from newegg. I was wondering if anyone has personal experience with this brand?

Heres the exact link to my purchase: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-132-341&depa=0

  2. You should update your profile with your burner model, etc., and you should also consider updating your burner's firmware. Prodisc is typically good media, if your profile had your burner listed, it might be helpful.

If those end up being Ritek G04 discs (I think they are), there has been alot of varying success lately it seems with those discs. Again though, your burner and updated firmware, as well as how you are burning the discs, can make the difference between a good and a bad burn.

  3. Ok, I filled out my profile. I downloaded the most recent version firmware that I could find. Maybe there is a hacked version or something out there that I do not know about.

I have used many dvd burning products. To name a few: Dvd shrink, decrypter, intervideo dvd copy 3, dvd x copy express/platinum, nero express(although i only tried it once), elaborate bytes clone dvd 2(one of the best quality looking programs i've used), and pinnacle instant copy. I would love to get elaborate bytes clonedvd2 to have no glitches/skips/or pixellation problems.

I am pretty sure that all of these programs have created a bad dvd copy. I did use the shrink/decrypter combo on one of my last burnt dvd-r's and it worked without any glitches, but it had glitched before on a few dvd-r's.

I have defragged my hard drive by the way.

I also have the Sony DRU710a and it doesn't like the Prodisc F01 either.
Also doesn't like CMC MAG E01.
    Ritec R03

Discs it seems to like are

    RicohJPNR01 and R02
    TDK -R 8x TTG02
    Verbatim MCC 02RG20,MCC 002, MCC01RG20
    YUDEN 000T02
    TYG02
    Maxell 002

A friend that has a Plextor drive burns the ProdiscF01 an 4x and gets really good results.

@ chowyo123 - It might be the player(s), not the media.

I used to have a Toshiba SD-220e in the UK. It played all my DVD-Rs perfectly - either backups or home shot footage that's been authored.

The same disks played on my current crappy AKAI sometime exhibit exactly the symptoms you describe.

Even expensive / well branded players can thorw their toys out of the pram over certain media.

You might find the answer to that under your specific player (if it's listed) in the "DVD Players" link to the left - assuming someone's put feedback on that player and Ritek G04s.

Failing that, a search of the forums might yield results too...

    Good luck.

  8. I found no information with the ridata G04's and the sony dru710A. I wish i would have looked here before my dvd's were shipped. I guess i'll give the ridata's a shot and post my results here, since basically i'm stuck with a newegg product. Who knows, maybe it'll end up being decent in the end.

We live and learn... We've all done something like that, so you're not alone.

Up until recently, I believe it was the G04's that had a good reputation, only getting bad reports in recent months - hopefully you've got a good batch that your player likes.

Hope it works out for you...

  10. Trial and error is the way to go i guess. I do plan on calling newegg and seeing if i might be able to cancel my order tomorrow morning since I did just order them today.

I just looked for verbatim media online at samsclub and found:
Verbatim dvd-r spindle 100 pack Model: 94985 8X write speed
Verbatim dvd-r spindle 50 pack model: 94984 8X write speed
Verbatim dvd-r spindle 50 pack model: 709528 4X write speed

Has anyone had any experience with sam's club verbatim? Are these MMC 003?
