  1. After a very long time it seems I'm finally getting somewhere. I have used the Panasonic app to convert .avi to MPEG1 and then used Nero to reencode to mpg2 (for SVCD). However the new issue is this.

I am now using the CenDyne 24x and bought a CompUSA brand of 99 min 24x CDR. Nero (both 5.5.5.1 and my new used version of 5.5.5.6) seems to see the disk as 703meg. I have told Nero to use overburning and set it to 99 minute and when making an SVCD I told it to fit to a 99 minute cd. This time the thing actually encoded with no errors (literally after months of trying) but then it stopped and said that there was not enough room on the disk and to put another disk.

So should Nero report to me that it is a 99 minute CD or does this mean that Nero isn't "compatible" with this longer CD ? Should Nero always say it is only 700 megs but really know that it can burn to 99 ? Do I need to try another CDR ? I'm looking for all options and suggestions.

Either way, you get the point. Any suggestions ?

  2. all 90/99min media will be reported as 80min since the current standards only allow up to 79:59 max capacity. your hardware must be capable of overburning the last 10/20min & most drives will not burn past 84 or 90min. http://www.cdmediaworld.com will have more info

  3. Okay, understood on the reporting of the capacity. I have the CenDyne 24x which is also the exact same as the Lite-On, in fact made by them; and, it supports up to 99 minute writing -- essentially all resources confirm this and is the reason I purchased this particular machine.

So, if I have enabled overburn and so forth it "should" go as long as it does indeed not exceed the 99 minutes or meg equivalent ? Without knowing what it wants to burn and thinks it sees it is a bit cryptic; but I guess it's the risk you get for doing it.

I guess I'm stuck with trial and error -- is there a "safe" minutes/meg file size I should stick to hopefully ensure a burn ? i.e., 97 minutes of 96 etc ? as opposed to one right now reporting in Nero as 98m 52 seconds or something close to that.

Make sure you enable the Overburn Features of Nero and make the able to burn up to 99m 59s (thats how high Lite-Ons can burn up to; I have a lite-on 24x as well =).

  5. Hey,

I finally got my hands on CD-R 99 minutes.. and then I read this about nero and 99 mins, and I tried out what I should do.. But it wont work.. and according to this site, my Plextor 12/10/32A should at least handle 90 mins.. but it wont do that.. in Nero it wont work.. it just complain its too much on the CD, even with overburn, and it spits out the CD.. also in CDRWin, i tried, made an ISO, and i Tested first.. it seemed ok, but when it reached 97% i got a WRITE error, and it didn't work either.. so i am beginning to question this comparison guide on this site.. if anyone have succeeded in burning 90 mins on this brand of Plextor.. please let me know... and tell me exactly how you did it..
