  1. Hello and thank you in advance for the help.

    I've tried to install Nero, and after rebooting, I lose my CD-R/RW and DVD drives.

    Anyone else run into this and get a fix?

    Thanks a bunch.

    Hi there,

    I had this problem. I have WinXP Pro and after I installed Nero I lost my CD-RW and DVD drives. So, I had to use System Restore to get my drives back. And I couldn't find the cure. But It was my fistr install of WinXP, and it was dual boot with WinME. Also I used Live Windows update from Microsoft web site. So, I removed WinXP from my D partition and reinstalled it again as dual boot with WinME. But this time I didn't do any Live Windows update from Microsoft site. I manually installed some patches. And when I installed Nero, it worked. It was 5.5.5.1.

    I hope this helps.

  4. Your new PC wasnt a Dell with a NEC CDR drive, by any chance? I have had the exact same problems with my new PC and from the Dell forums so have a lot of other people.

  5. I had a similar problem. Lost my CD-Rom and the CD writer. THe solution was to uninstall everything that burns a CD. In my case this was MusicMatch and Ulead Movie Factory. Then reinstall them AFTER Nero is installed.

    This is suggested in the NERO FAQ somewhere!

    Use regedit to remove the keys named UpperFilter and LowerFilter from:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Cl ass\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    EZCD adds a kind of 'in between' driver that sits between your CDROM drive and your main driver. Removing the program seems to remove the 'middle' driver file but not the reference to it, hence every time windows queries your CD the message never gets as far as the drive itself.
    This saved my WindowsXP install and also a friends Win2K machine. Just be very careful!
