I have had it. I don't care what program i use, i am not getting any results. I am now using Nero 5.5.4. I am trying to burn my first vcd. I have gone step by step as per the instructions on this site. It seems to burn just fine. But when i try to playback my new vcd in my dvd player, i get a disk error. I actually have 2 different dvd players (samsung 611, and JBL dvd600) same problem on both players. I have tried 4 different media mfgs and 2 types (fuji cdr, imation cdr, memorex cdr, verbatim CDR-W)I am pulling my hair outHELP! Am i missing a step here? Any suggestions?

  2. Can you play the VCD on your PC (see the Play section to the left). When you say that you followed all the steps in the guide? Which guide? What's your source? etc.

Did you check the DVD players list to make sure your DVD players can play VCD?

You added the mpeg to the vcd mode in Nero, didn't you?
Right click the mpeg and see the properties.
    Is it vcd compliant?

I can play it on the PC, but using WMP7 i have to change the directory to the .dat file (can't get that far on the dvd player). The 2 players i have both say they are VCD compatible and the Samsung is listed here. The "guide" i referred to was the screen shots on this site under how to "author". The source is an Mpeg video i downloaded. When i add it to the que to burn i let Nero auto convert it (i have tried some other files as well).

Hiro.. I did add it to the VCD mode..

I think Tmpgenc is a more powerful encoder. Try it.
Open the file in Tmpgenc. Load the vcd template and hit encode.

Just encode 2 minutes and stop it. You still get a 2 minutes mpeg. Burn it with Nero using cdrw instead.
Check if it can be played in your Samsung player.

If ok,then encode the whole file and burn again.
I always try a small clip if not sure about the result.

Still no good hiro. It seems to burn fine. I can playback the .dat on my pc with wmp7. I am trying to burn in VCD mode only. When i right click and select properties, it only says mpeg file. How do i tell if it is vcd compliant?

  7. If I were to make a diagnosis based on what you have said, I would say that it is a media problem. I know in my Sony player I could only get Memorex Platinum CD-RW's to work. Got too expensive and I bought an Apex player and could burn on anything and make it work. Then I broke down and bought a DVD burner and have been able to play those on anything. Anyway, I would bet dollars to doughnuts that your problem is in your media selection, especially since you can play the VCDs in WMP...

    File: C:\Program Files\Mpeg-1
    Resolution: 352x288
    Frame rate: 25Hz
    Duration: 04:56.03
    Standard compliant: Yes

    Pause after track: 5 seconds

This is what I can see in Nero after right click the properties.
Standard compliant, this part is important.
Once I burnt one not standard complaint, Then I could't watch it on the dvd alone player.

If you say yes to let nero encode it, it always says yes. I see your point though.i double checked the encoding after using tempgenc and everything is as you suggested. I think soggy shorts may be right about the media.

  10. Just a thought
25 Hz is PAL standard !
Where do you live and can your player play PAL ?
    Most recent players does !
    But you'll never know.

    If this doesn't help.
You should give tmpgenc a try.

  11. Why don't you try to author and burn the VCD with VCDEasy?

If I understand you correctly, you've already got an mpeg 1 file, so there shouldn't be any need for reencoding (unless the mpeg does not have a standard bitrate, and even then you might be able to create a working xvcd using VCDEasy).

  12. just a stupid hint:

try to write it on a CD-RW with single speed !

i've tried this (with TDK media and WinOnCD),
and it worked on a dvd player
    which "said" cannot playback CD-R/W's

    bye xhannes
