converting a movie to wide screen

if it is a divx widescreen it should be enough to select under settings->advanced 1:1 vga and full screen(keep aspect ratio). then use the file->preview to see how it looks like before encoding.

it is smaller than wide screen i want to make it wide screen.

Load a video source file.
Go to the advanced tab> clip frame> arrange setting.
Change the vertical framesize as you like.
Move the slider to preview.

Obviously you are not a master of the long speech. It is time to come out with the file properties. Otherwise I don't have a chance to help you.

set your resolution to 352 x 240
got to clipframe and take 22 from the top and bottom. for a total of 44. For 16x9 aspect ratio you take the second number from your resolution and divide by 1.23 . so in your case it would be 240 (second number set in 352x240) and divide that by 1.23 and you get 195.
240-195=45
45/2=22.5
and round that 2 a 22 fro bot top and bottom for a total of 44.

ok i right clicked on the divx movie and the properties are Image: Width is 576 pixels and height is 240 pixels

I guess, you want to convert this divx to XVCD 352x480, correct me if I am wrong. Go to arrange setting as mentioned above. Select arrange method "center[custom size]". Type 352x240. As I have understood you, the divx came with a wrong aspect ratio, so it it stretched or squached vertically. Change the vertical resolution (240) up or down and decide yourself, what is the correct ratio. I can not watch your video.
