OK, I know the basics of a VCD > DVD conversion.

1)Extract the mpeg files from the VCD (I used tmpg's 'MPEG Tools')

    2)Convert Audio to 48khz (ffmepgui)

3)Author DVD from m1v and 48khz audio (using TDA).

When I try this TDA gives me a GOP error on the video stream......do I ignore, or re-encode or is there a trick I should know? All I want to do is stick two or three vcd episodes into one full length DVD WITHOUT having to re-encode the video stream.

I thought DVD's could handle mpeg1 streams? I've not read anywhere about changing the GOP.......baffled.

    Hi monzie,

What's the error? I'm guessing it's along the lines of "GOP is too long" or something to do with the "sequence header"...

Possibly, if your standalone DVD player will play them, but not guaranteed.

DVDs (generally) have to have a Group Of Pictures (GOP) no longer than 15 for PAL and 18 for NTSC (see "What is DVD", top left of the page for full specs).

Having not needed to cross this bridge, I'm not sure how you fix it. I'm guessing (unfortunately) that you'll need to re-encode and set your max GOP length as appropriate.

Check out Rejig, Womble MPEG-VCR among others.

    Hope that helps. Good luck...
