i was doing some reading and i looked at all the reviews for all the burners i jsut mentioned. (refering to the 1633s-108-3500) all the reviews i found said that they were all good.. i thought they are all the same price at newegg and all got great reviews so ill get the liteon since they have the kprobe and the have dedicated sites for their firmware hacking.. i wasnt worried about the 4x dl on the nec and pioneer i know the liteon onle does 2.4 but i figgured hell the cdfreaks will hack it to 4x soon.. so no big deal.. well everyone (users) says that the nec or pioneer is better.. and in some cases i see that it is.. IE the liteon only does 8x -R and the others do 16x + and -.. i havent opened the box yet so im thinking on refusing and re-ordering the pioneer.. BUT the liteon has the best ripping speeds of all them.. and with the SW you can bitset too.. so im sooo confused lol.. i dont know what to do.. what would you guys do.. please dont base it on BIAS opinion if possible.. all things considered is it really worth sending it back and getting the other.?

Liteon is a great burner. I don't know which model you got. I currently have a 451s (with modded 832 firmware). It burns everything flawlessly. Of course, due to cost, I haven't had the opportunity to try dual layer, but I'm sure that will be great also. Pioneer also makes a great unit for little cash. It all boils down to personal preference.

What is your media preference?
DVD-R & Pioneer
DVD+R & NEC
Just my opinion (I have a LiteOn).If God had intended us not to masturbate he would've made our arms shorter.

If you go to cdfreaks and to the hardware section, and read up on the NEC forum, there seems to be a lot of people jumping over to the 3500 b/c of problems w/Lite-ons...I have a liteon cd burner/dvd combo (for ripping) and a NEC 3500 hacked f/w and burn most my memorex +r's @ 12X....I love it.

I have the NEC 3500a and it's a great drive which burns some 8X media at 16X, however for ripping this drive is locked at 2x.
I also have an Optorite DD1205 burner which is a 12X dual layer dual format drive. Now this drive rips at speeds up to 15X and seems to be very media friendly accepting any brand I put into it. The drive comes with Beige & Black Bezels, Nero burning software, and PowerDVD. I bought the drive here for $66.

I got the Liteon 1633s to answer the earlyer question.. after doing lots more reading im just gonna stick with that drive. it will be hacked for 4xdl at some point and if not so what.. im not gonna spend 10-15 for the media when i can get ritech (richojpn01) for less than $0.50 each these days.. and with the codeguys hacks and bitsetting for the +Rs im happy.. btw.. this thing SMOOOOKS as a ripper.. no lock on single layer pressed it took me 5 min to rip a dvd
