It's junk - **** knows what QT was thinking.

I wouldn't let them, but my daughter cries at any violence on TV. Even if someone just falls down!

I hate ashton kucher...but I was pleasntly surprised with the movie. Pretty good.

    @ tekkieman

As a kid ashtons character goes through these blackouts where he wakes up not knowing what happened. He logs his days in a journal and as an adult, he finds out that he has the ability to relive the blackouts. He changes a simple detail in the memory and his entire life changes to something new. Basically, its his struggle to make his life and everyone elses perfect. Worth the rent.

Also, saw kill bill vol. 2 a couple of days ago...it was awesome.

    @ stilt

I dont know which ending you saw for butterfly effect, but if you havent seen the directors cut ending, watch it. It's a LOT better than the theatrical ending.

I thought the Butterfly Effect was alright. I also hate Austin Kucher. The movie was alright...not as good as I thought it should have been. If you rent the DVD then watch the alternate ending. The ending that ends the movie sucks. Story is just like Devanshu describes...though I wouldn't have said "changes a simple detail in the memory"...but basically that's the movie. I wouldn't watch it again and frankly a little irritated that I saw it once Austin Kucher ...I knew better

Kill Bill Volume 1 was....well it just plain sucked IMO. The story line was alright...I guess. But from all the conversation about it on here I thought it would be pretty good. I rented it last week (monday is $1 DVD rental day) and I didn't even back it up

Really disappointed in QT on volume 1...and I usually like his movies.

Volume 1 was basically hack and slash action type of movie. Not much plot there except a chick whos out for revenge. Volume 2 is more about the story and why she's out for revenge. Both great movies if you ask me.

Oh I will rent volume 2 just because....but I was not at all impressed by volume 1.

But I do not like the new fighting effects that are so far outside of actual physics either....Matrix Reloaded ....keep some assimilation to proper flight of the effect of a kick, MFers don't fly 30 ft across the room from a punch.

I didn't like the camera work or the imagery style they used in the scenes. He' tried making it a cross of several techniques that didn't work too well IMHO. The story line, I thought, was good and is worth getting or renting the movie. I'm going to check out Vol 2 just to add closure to watching the first one.

As for Butterfly effect. i only saw the Director's cut version and it was decent. I wouldn't own it, but it's worth renting. I'm not a Kutcher fan, but I felt he gave a decent performance. There were a few holes I felt needed closure or felt someone didn't pay too close attention to specific details.

Vol. 2 is better. I liked Vol. 1 too though. Vol. 2 is a little more realistic (I say that loosely) and more about story and dialogue than 1. They're almost like different movies.
About the Butterfly Effect, I saw the beginning and from the late middle to the end (I think, from the part where they first burn the dog). I have only seen the theatrical ending. I haven't had time to see the other yet. But from what I saw,
    (WARNING: SPOILERS)

The ending was too happy. I would have like the Twilight Zone ending when he wakes up and the doctor tells him that the notebooks were all his imagination.
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

  14. The director's cut ending is weak. I didn't like it, nor did I like the palmreader scene. It's all out of place in the movie. I saw it in theaters, and I don't think audiences would take the ending well.

    Umbilical cord? Gimme a break...

I know exactly what you mean. There's one specific one that comes to mind but I wont mention it just in case someone wants to rent it.

  16. You're free to post your opinion, as am I.

I personally didn't care for it at all.

[Edit: I'm referring to the Director's Cut, I prefer the theater release.]

  17. Well I loved it. It reminded me of an excellent (imho)
book called "Women at the edge of time" which had
    a similar premise.

The central character was captive in an
insane asylum but could travel into the future for short
periods. She was scheduled for a nasty experimental
brain operation but ended up poisoning the medical
staff. You never were sure if she was insane or not.
This was written years before the 12 monkeys.

  21. SOME SPOILER...

Just saw KB2. Overall better than 1 for story, but I get annoyed with GLARING plot holes. I can deal with all the superhero kung fu mumbo jumbo, but when half the movie plot is predicated on the fact that this "super stealth ninja assassin" person was DUMB enough to open a door and stand there with a sword...IN TEXAS...jeez. "Those who live by the sword will get shot by those who don't". Movie shoulda ended right there.

Butterfly effect has holes, too, but these time travel thingies are usually loaded with them, and most people get confused enough that they fly right by unnoticed.

No. Most people let them slide in order to enjoy a film. Others
do not have the imagination to do this automatically and
pick away at every lack of plausibility. I mean Jeeez Louise!! ..the
film was about time travel to start off with!! Pleeeese.

I liked the movie. The theatrical version is much, much, much better than the director's cut of the film though.

    I agree...

    Is the primise old? Yes
    Is ashton a dork? Yes
Was the movie entertaining? To me, Yes

  25. I never said I didn't ENJOY it. I did. And I do let those things go when watching, but they are fodder for fun yet pointless small talk discussions like this one. And there are much worse things IMO than technical holes, like the big KB plot hole, and like the overpredictable rehashes of tired cliches in hollywood blockbusters. It's all just lazy scriptwriting; they must figure that a big budget, big effects, and big names mean they needn't worry about the script.

That's why a film like Spidey 2 was refreshing - yeah, it's a big blockbuster action flick, but it didn't have many holes or character stupidity.

That and the fact that they have had around 40+ years to figure out something plausible for spiderman. Original comics had the spider become irradiated by Tesla coils, and Peter Parker had to MAKE the web-slingers.

I bought the dvd at costco, because I wanted to see it for a while, and I thought it would be worth the buy. Overall, I thought it was okay. I enjoyed the show and could appreciate the story line, but it's not one of my favorites.
