  1. I started out with Tmpgenc, and it's worked great. I learned about setting audio and video bitrates.

I have been looking at other tools (e.g. QuEnc and FreeEnc), and they have settings for (just) bitrate. Is this a video bitrate, and the audio is assumed to be at the default of 224 kbits/sec? Or something else?

    Thanks in advance....

  2. i think for video encoding, the bitrate refers to the bitrate of the video.

in tmpgenc there is a a tab to set audio bitrate when encoding.

Right. There is. So what I am getting at is, when these other tools say simply "bitrate", are they referring to video bitrate? And audio bitrate just goes to default?

  4. i just downloaded quenc to take a look at it. the bitrate refers to the video bitrate. the audio doesn't even come into question with this program because it only encodes the video as an elementary stream (m2v). meaning only the video is encoded and the audio is untouched.
