    I'm trying to play a DVD image (i.e. a directory which contains audio_ts and video_ts subdirectories) in Media Player Classic. It looks like it ought to be able to do this, but when I try to do it I get the following message:

    Media Player Classic could not render some of the pins in the graph, you may not have the needed codecs or filters installed on the system.

    The following pin(s) failed to find a connectable filter:

    MPEG-2 Video Decoder::Output
    This is followed by a whole load of technical data about the formats it's looking for a filter for, which, in summary are: YV12, I420, IYUV, YUY2, ARGB32 [FourCC = 0x0018F778, apparently], RGB32 [0018F868], RGB24 [0018F958 - anyone see a pattern?], RGB565 [0018FA48], and RGB555 [0018FB38].

    Now, my PC's dispay mode is 16 bit, which should be either RGB565 or RGB555, so it shouldn't _need_ a codec to display that. However, everything works OK in 24 bit mode. Although refreshes of non-video-accelerated apps tend to be a bit slow. Anyone know how I can fix this?

    Download the trial of powerdvd. After the trial is over, you should still have a functioning mpeg2 codec.

    Any recent version of Media Player Classic comes with its own mpeg1/2 decoder but you have to install something first. I think its the virtual runtime libraries, I don't remember but the documentation will tell you.

    If you don't use its own decoder you must specify a 3rd party one. Just look in the options and it allows you to pick what plugin you want to use to run each function. Personally, I use the Intervideo decoder that comes with WinDVD. When I make DVDs I include an mplay directory with media player classic, the intervideo decoder dll, plus all other necessary plugins in it. I then place an autorun script in the root of the DVD. So the DVD will autoplay on any windows pc regardless of what they do or don't have installed on their pc. Great program.

    Where can I find the documentation? The version I downloaded just had an 'mplayerc.exe' file in the archive, and the web page at gabest.org just says:

    Hi
    Gabest.org under construction
    Which isn't very helpful. There's a readme in the docs section at sourceforge, but it doesn't say anything about installing anything else.

    I have the trial of PowerDVD installed -- how would I go about switching to using its codec? Will DVD menus work if I do it this way?

    However, everything works OK in 24 bit mode
    This gets stranger and stranger. It doesn't work OK in 24 bit mode. It works OK if I've switched mode while it's running!?!

    Anyone got any advice on what might be causing this, how I can fix it, or even where I can find the documentation mentioned above?
