  1. Has anyone here used this product? I'm pretty sure it contains a Pinnacle Firewire card and Pinnacle Studio software. Just trying to find out if this would be a good buy. I eventually want to convert my 8mm tapes to VCD.

  2. ...I don't own a StudioDV, but inputs from people I know who use this, says it's OK. And considering that it's cheap. I almost bought it months ago, but the local Compusa didn't have it in stock, and I found in Pinnacle website that they're having compatibility (device control) issues with this card and my camcorder, so I bought something else.

I believe the only differences between Sony EZEditor and StudioDV are:
    1. Box has Sony name on it.
    2. EZEditor comes with 2 free tapes.

I don't know if this is the 'newer' versions of the card, and version 7 software, but either way, it should be OK. And to answer your question in the other post; my understanding is you have to pay for the software upgrade to version 7. I think they changed the 1394 chip on the card, from Adaptec to TI (I'm not 100% here, but they did change chip). And it looks like the chip change is just to make it OHCI-compliant.

And as a side note (I don't know if this will help you or not), the StudioDV card and DV200 are 'identical' cards, the only difference is the software package (DV200 comes with Premiere 6.0, and other tools).

Have you checked Pinnacle's website? You should be able to get more answers there.

    my 2cents.

  3. is exactly same as pinnacle studiodv with software 7.0

new firewirecard they moved away from the ti chipset and are nuow using the Agere chip ( previously Lucent )
same card though. still ohci 1.1 compliant , and acts like a ti card.

thing works flawless for even advanced editing.
nice thing is that this set offers upgrade path to more pro tools like Premiere. ( premier will work with pinnacle cards without additional drivers. it detects the card and run . period.

most bang for the buck. and the card will work with almost any editing software out there Ulead - adobe - pinnacle and many others.
