  1. I have a Sony PVM 2530 27" color monitor that I bought off of eBay. It did'nt come with a manuel so I do not know how to set it up to my computer.

I bought an S cable that I connected the monitor to my pc with, but I'm not getting any picture. Can anyone walk me through this? The connections on the back of the monitor are as follows:

Line A: Has a cable plug in & a red & white audio plug in for 1 in & 1 out.
Line B: Identicle to Line A

VTR IN: This is for an S cable (which I have connected to my PC)

CMPTR: Is a long printer looking plug in with a bunch of the little metal rods in it. It also has an on off switch that says "sync on green".

I'm assuming the CMPTR stands for computer, but the only cables I found that will fit this are for the old printers, so I'm a little confused here.

I've tried searching on Google & Lukol for a manuel, but have had no luck.
Does anyone here have any experience with this type of monitor, & guide me on how to hook this up. I paid $400.00 for it, & I'm getting a little frustrated.....

    Thanks..... Boda

The SVHS cable will probably work, but you need to go into your computers video card controls and set it to output to the external monitor.
    Start>Control Panel>Display>Settings

  6. Alright.....

I figured out how to connect my PC to the PVM monitor with an S-cable, & I can now see my PC desktop on the monitor if I enable my PC with dual monitors.

I then tried using the PVM monitor as an external video editing monitor with Vegas 5, & found that the monitor did not display anything. I went into the Vegas help files & found this under external monitors.....

"The video is converted to DV format and sent through the IEEE-1394 card to the DV device (camcorder or DV-to-analog media converter). The DV device sends analog output to the television monitor."

....so it looks like I have to run an S-cable from my PC to a media convertor, & then run another S-cable from the media converter to the monitor. I really don't want to use my video camera as a media convertor.

    I now have 2 questions:

    1. Is this correct, or am I misunderstanding something with the connection to the media converter? All I really want to do is view my video editing projects in real time on my external monitor when using Vegas 5 or Premiere Pro, or some of my DVD authoring software.

    2. If this is correct, can anyone recommend a good media converter? I seen one that Sony had out for around $500.00. I would like to get something that is a little cheaper than that, though, since all I am really using it for is to connect my PC to my PVM monitor.

    Thanks..... Boda

  7. I actually did a little homework & found this....

It's supposed to better than the Sony model I was looking at.

No, i'm pretty sure you don't need a converter. I plan on doing this as well, and I faced a similar question: if you hook up the monitor to display the computer, how does it show just the previews and not everything else. It turns out, there is a setting in Adobe Premiere that handles this. Check for a setting in Vegas or Premiere that allows the previews to show up.

By the way, what vid card do you have? It might be helpful to know.
