I've tried every thing, how do I get nero to successfully burn a scvd from an avi file, or how do I get an AVI file on to a cd I can then put on my tv/dvd?

Take a look to the left under "Convert" you'll find some guides programs. I assume that you have a DivX file (not an avi) so make sure you have the DivX codec installed (ie. can you play the file in media player).

There's a freeware program called TMPGenc that can convert avi/divx/etc -> MPEG1 or MPEG2 files (info to left). It's fairly nice, but slow If you've got more money there's also CCE, Ulead DVD MovieFactory, etc.
