Hi all,
I have an avi (624x352) that's in widescreen and when I did an SVCD of it, I found this formula for letterbox SVCD:
Calculated Height = [(720 / X) * Y] / (11/10)
So basically the SVCD was resized to 480x368 with borders of 56 and looked pretty good. BUT then I find out my DVD player can't play SVCD, so I am trying to do a VCD. I'm not sure how to figure out how to resize it right, I've been playing with a bunch of numbers to get it to look alright in 352x240, is there a formula for VCD or something? Thanks for any help!

Sometimes it's as easy as selecting "full screen(keep aspect ratio)" for the video arrange method. Try that and see if it works.

DVD2SVCD is just a script that is using bunch of other software and among them it uses some encoder too, either Cinema Craft or TMPEG (perhaps it allow something else, QuEnc or something, I don't remember). What teegee420 suggested is to use TMPG encoder's built-in options of resizing (fullscreen / keep aspect ratio), but Im not sure would it apply to DVD2SVCD - since as I said it is a script with its own built-in 'formulas' to set up encoder it is using, there may not be any option like this even if your DVD2SVCD uses TMPGEnc.
I would just load your avi file in TMPGEnc, encode it to VCD standard-compliant MPEG-1, then author the VCD with VCDEasy in VCD standard 2.1 (thats the one that uses PBC on dvd players - adding nice menus, chapters etc). But thats me, you may like it other way
Easiest way is probably to use DVD2SVCD, thats what I used to suggest to all friends and newbies (for *SVCD* making) but don't take my word for it, I dont know it. And now - since you had to calculate resizing with it - Im not even sure is it the easiest way anymoreI

Heh, well I was following LeeBear's guide (https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/111846.php), and I did it manually like he did because he mentioned that sometimes DVD2SVCD doesn't letterbox correctly, when I did the SVCD.
But since I can't use SVCD, I was trying to figure out how to do it manually again with VCD, but don't know how to calculate the borders.
I guess I will cross my fingers and hope things turn out right with the auto options.
