  2. encode to 1/2 D1 resolution. set your encoder to encode to 352X480 and set your max bitrate around 4000-5000. You need far less bitrate to maintain good quality at 1/2 D1. the DVD player will stretch it out to the full screen size. if you want more in depth info you need to provide info about how you are encoding your files, what programs, etc.

  3. What format are these episodes in? I'll assume they're .AVI, so you should be able to follow this guide:

    http://www.lancey.info/tutorial/divx2dvd.html

On the 10th picture down (Wizard 4/5: Bitrate) you can see that you can adjust how large the output file will be. I fill my DVDs 98%, leaving 2% just in case. So, if you wanted three episodes to a DVD you'd select 32% of a DVD each (98% divided by 3).

Remember to set the target format to "DVD-R 4.7GB (UDF)" in the drop down menu.

Follow that guide, and you should be fine.

This is impossible - MPEG is a lossy compression format, and when you reduce the bitrate it will always cause a reduction in image quality. See what you think looks best - use a DVD-RW and encode small samples at varying bitrates to give you a feel for it.

Since you asked about fitting more on a DVD, here's one method you could use. If you don't mind lower resolution and VHS quality then you could fit an awful lot on your DVD by converting these videos to VCD:

    https://www.videohelp.com/divxtovcd.htm

Then you can author these resulting MPEG-1 files to DVD:

    Hope this helps,

Another option is to convert the files to VCD , but encode the audio at 48Kbps. Just use TMPGEnc for this

Remember to use an external MPEG-1 audio program. I use tooLAME. Also use an external sampling frequency converter. You could try SSRC.

For the MPEG Settings change the Motion search precision (Video tab) to high or highest quality. And if you have to much block noise in your movies, try enabling the option called Soften block noise, under Quantize Matrix tab (MPEG settings). In the Audio TAB increase the Sampling frequency to 48000.

Some times using Noise reduction filter with its default value will improve the image quality.

After the MPEG1 file has been generated, use your favorite authoring program and create your DVD. Try TMPGEnc DVD Author because is very ease to use.

With this simple steps I converted the whole Cawboy bebop anime TV show to just a couple of DVDs.
