  1. Hello,

I am planning to by a mobile phone and subscribe to a cellular service.

What are some of the best mobile phones (makes and models) today? I hear Nokia is best.

Who offers the best, most reliable celluar service? Price is not a problem given that the service is best. AT&T?

Where is a good place to buy find these mobile phone(s) and service(s)?

I know someone who went with Verizon. I think the phone is also made by Verizon. Either the phone is bad or the service is bad because there is heavy static when talking from long distance such as out-of-state (say Las Vegas to Los Angeles).

The reason I am asking this questions is because of the bad experience described above.

    Thanks,

    Kuphryn

complete crap shoot. The phone is not as important as the service. You really need to talk to people in your area about service.this varies widely.
gms tends to be poor in the US.

I have verizon service with an LG 6000 Camera phone

    IT'S 100% CRAP.

Where I live (In Southern Maryland) there is 1 bar of service and sometimes no service at all. In cities there's good service but if u dont live in a city, dont go for it. Verizon roams alot on the I-95 corridor to.

I also hate that verizon charges you for every little thing. If you like to use AIM on your mobile phone or if you like to text people, Verizon is not the service for you. The most text's you can buy in a package is 800 and verizon counts every message sent from AIM and recieved by AIM to be a text message. They also charge for e-mail on your cell and they charge for WAP.

I am switching to Sprint very soon. They do AIM through their WAP interface so it's a flat fee (15) for as much AIM, e-mail and internet as you want.

I also encourage you to look into spring how that they have variable minute plans (similar to rollover minutes)

As a Verizon customer, i can say they suck, their tech support is terrible and they hate their customers. I was actually told by a customer service rep that it was "my fault for buying the phone and to either pay the termination fee or live with it"

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. My call's sound like a millitary radio, very very staticy. And Verizon in their infinate wisdom, makes their phones exclusivly 800MHZ CDMA Digital. No other services. If you get into a zone with no 800MHZ CDMA Digital serivce you'r screwed.

Sprint phones include 1900MHZ PCS, 800MHZ CDMA Digital and Analog and GSM so you are never roaming (i think they have like 3 or 4 no service zones.) and their plans have a "no roaming charge" provision.

Be careful, because there is digital and analog roaming with sprint. I've had this service since 1997. There are different plans for different areas, however.Has its problems, but I'm sticking with it for now

I think AT&T is supposed to be the best cellular service provide all-around.

  8. I found out more information from the person I mentioned whose mobile phone and service is really bad.

    Model: LG
    Service: Verizon

I hear very good response for Verizon. So I think the main problem is the LG mobile phone. It is no good!

I will go with Verizon or Cingular service and definitely Nokia phone. Nokia seems simple and works great.

The problem here is that where I live Verizon uses a super tower on the Patuxent River @ Mt. Harmony

I get bad reception because i am far from the super tower and they wont answer my complaints.

The LG phone is flawed. Because it can only use one specific frequency and protocal, it can't use any other type of signal.
