  1. Hey everyone. Don't know if there are any medical people on the board but I got a question. I have been sleeping a shit load lately. I would say for the last 2 months. Now I would normally sleep for about 7-9 hours a night. Depending on what time my class is in the morning and what time I go to bed.

But for these last few months....I have been sleeping around 10 hours a night plus I take atleast a 2 hour nap during the day. Every day. It's not like I am just tired some days......but every day I take a nap. I feel exhausted and that I have to have a nap.

I don't know if its the fact that I don't get any exercise because of school winding down and that I am out of energy or that something is wrong. Anyone ever go through this? Anyone know what over sleep is a sign of? I haven't had any other symptoms.....just too much damn sleep.

    Thanks for any responses.

  2. I too would sleep a whole bunch and didnt know why. The doc told me I was fine and I should just eat more.

I would work from 5 pm to 12 am then come home spend about 1-2 hours on the comp and sleep like 3 am and wake up around 2-3 pm in the afternoon. But when I sleep early like 10-11 pm I would wake up normally around 7-9 am. It just seems I have bad sleeping habits and my body cant adapt.

Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

B6 will help give you more energy

If you're still feeling that way...it's best to see a doctor 8)

  6. It sounds kind of like a post-viral chronic fatigue syndrome.

Obstructive sleep apnoea is a possibility.

It's hard to say without actually a history or examination.

I suggest that you see your family doctor.

    Best regards.

  8. Thanks for all the responses everyone. I hope it's not depression. I don't see why it would be because I am a happy person who has a good life and friends and family. Plus I got you guys..... :P

Maybe it is just stress with it being the end of the semester and all. Luckily there is only 3 weeks left so I can take a vacation.

But if this does continue for a while longer I will probably go see a doctor. Maybe I just need to start making time to getting out and exercising....whether it be just walking, riding my bike in the mountains, or playing basketball.

Ah well, thanks again for your responses and suggestions.

I was wondering how long it'd be before we saw that post from you

I had a friend up at school who was on a 28-hour day (6-day week). Every day his "day" would be 4 hours later. His friends had a schedule as to when his "mornings" were so we knew when not to wake him. I remember Monday started his week at noon and went from there. He slept 12 hours to the normal 8 and stayed up 16 like the rest of us. Surprisingly he still made it to class though I don't know how on Thursdays...

I would also suggest being more active. Stress from classes isn't excercise though you still feel exhausted from it. Best do it in the morning before classes if at all possible to get the body up and running before sitting still in classes for the rest of the day. My last couple years I went down to the pool for a couple thousand yards before breakfast and morning classes. It was nice because at 6am I was the only one at the pool. Even just getting out of bed and doing a round of push-ups/sit-ups in your room would be enough to get you going. Oh, and lots of coffee

I was in your situation, only very much older, and I stopped eating sweet things, candies, pastries, cola, all those things that contain sugar, and after a few days I felt so much better. You can still eat protein such as meat, chicken, fish, etc. so there is no need to starve.

That's exactly what I thought. I had a friend who had the same symptoms.

Some people have mentioned that it may be depression or stress. The doctor put my friend on antidepressants for it, and he chucked them in the bin after a week because they made him feel worse. The doctors failed to recognise the symptoms until he'd become a lot worse. Only then did a nurse realise that it had come in on a cold virus.

I think you'd best see a doctor, and discuss this with him/her. They should be able to fix you. Maybe you just need a BIOS tweak?

Too much(or not enough) melatonin(sp?) in your system? Heard it in a bio lecture the other day...it messes up your circadian rhythm and disrupts your sleep-wake cycle in the suprachiasmatich nucleus(in the hypothalamus). Could also be sleep apnea. Wow, college really teaches you stuff.

Anyway, good luck with the problem man.

Can be due to many things. Stress, depression, stimulants, etc. Back in medschool, my buddy was sleeping 20hr/day. He would get up,eat, workout and get the lecture notes in this 4hr period. This lasted about 2 1/2 months. His girl dissed him after he moved out to school. We attributed it to this. Started hooking up with new girlz and he was back to his normal 12 hr schedule. So, i would wouldnt worry too much unless it starts lasting for months. A general check up with labs is never a bad idea.

  15. I work inside all day, in a classroom, I don't get outside much. That was the reason my doc gave me for my sleepiness. Get out, get some sun and it lets your body know that you are suppose to be AWAKE...after a while of taking walks during lunch or any time off, it started to help. Get some sun and exercise.
