The "how to" guides here have me helplessly lost.

I finally got through the process to the end of this ordeal, to the part where you actually BURN THE DISC. Great. Wonderful. I tried to burn just the bin file the way the "how to" guide for Nero instructed, and it told me my bin file was too large to fit on the disk. My MPEG fit just fine, and I don't think my menus should have added too much to it. Nero is telling me it's 3201MB! What is all of this and why isn't it addressed anywhere?

And yes, I know Nero 5.5.4 isn't the preferred way to burn bin/cue files, but I tried downloading CDRDAO and I have a directory full of non-executable files and a "readme" file that's complete gibberish, so I can't even get that to work.

    Update:

So now, I've tried Fireburner, and it seems to be locking up. It gets to the point where it says it is "setting write parameters" and just HANGS there. I can't get CDRDAO to work--it doesn't look like it's designed for my system at all. CDRWin won't even open for me, so I tried to follow the instructions for converting a .bin to an .mpg, but I'm not sure I should be doing that. I don't know if the .mpg it says it's going to convert to will preserve my menus, my chapter indices, or if it's going to be MPEG or MPEG2! I have downloaded and installed so many pieces of software trying to do this that I'm certain my registry is all f**ked up, which is probably why programs are now starting to hang up on me.

Will someone PLEASE help. It's extremely disheartening to get maybe one response to every four or five pleas for help I've posted. I am SO CLOSE here, and if I can just get this last step hammered out, I will go away and never bother you people again.

  3. Firstly, CDRDAO is a command console program. I hope you downloaded the Win32 version of the program or you have no chance of making it work. There is a good GUI that you can get for CDRDAO called "XDuplicator". Use Google to search for it and you will be able to find it for download (it is freeware).

Secondly, do not use Nero to burn CUE/BIN images. Even if you get it to burn, it will most likely not work.

Thirdly, if Fireburner and CDRWin are locking up on you, there is something very screwy with your system... Do you know if you have a working ASPI layer? There is a tool you can download from Adaptec to check (ASPICHK -- I think). There is another proggy called "ForceASPI" that will install the newest version of Adaptec's ASPI layer for you.

Also, extracing the MPEG from a CUE/BIN file will mean that you loose all the menus etc. You are just getting the mpeg file you started off initially so there is no point in doing it.

    Regards.

Thank you. I'll look for this.

Like I said, I'll happily use something else if I can get it to work.

It's not so much that they're locking up on me. I downloaded the most recent Fireburner (2.11, I think?) and when I tried to run the self-extract file, it told me it couldn't find MSIEXEC. Well, I'd give it MSIEXEC if I knew what it was or where to find it, but as it is, all I can do is click okay, at which point the self-extract cancels and ends. So I tried the previous version on the Fireburner website, 1.6, and that's the one that's hanging up on me as described above. The instructions in the "how to" guide are for Fireburner 1.7+ anyway.

As for CDRWin, I finally got it to run (for a while, I would click on it and nothing would happen, so I downloaded another version) and now I'm coming up against that problem others have commented on, that CDRWin won't overburn. My MPEG was 799.5MB alone. The .bin file with the menus included is 820MB. I don't know how the inclusion of two 650KB bitmaps tacked on over 20MB, but there it is.

Nero was telling me it was missing the ASPI, but would run anyway. CDRWin installed its own ASPI, and I downloaded Adaptec's ASPI, but it said it wasn't finding any Adaptec devices when I tried to install.

That's what I was afraid of. A cautionary line should really be included in the "how to" about burning bins that mentions this. All it presently says on the burnbin.htm page is that is burning bins doesn't work for you, convert them to mpeg. Newbie idiots like me might not understand what that would entail.

Thank you, Michael, for responding and helping.

(Updated to add that XDuplicator worked like a charm. All 820MB fit on the disc no problem and it looks great. Thank you!)
