I use Windows Media Player to play mpegs in full screen and everytime i do that there are black bars going vertically up and down on the right and left side of the video. I've also tried looking at it in Winamp, same thing. I ripped them in resolution 640x480 and they looked fine looking at the AVIs. I frameserve with V-Dub to put the logo on there and then open the file in TMPGEnc (also had to clip the right side of the video up to 21). When i looked at the preview before the encode there was no black bars on the right or left side of the video. I have tried encoding the video with different settings see if that fixes anything (different resolutions, checking/unchecking certain settings, and video arrange method). I've ripped before but am a little out of practice and don't remember what settings i used, so i needed to experiment anyway. I'm trying to encode the video to where there is black bars on the top and the bottom of the video (not 16:9), I think it might be 1:1 VGA. I've tried looking at old videopimp videos my brother has on his computer and his display was the same. I'm guessing that the problem is either Windows Media Player, my Monitor, or my video card. A strange thing i noticed when i went to configuration for ATI was that under the TV tab it says by driver ATI Rage Theater Video Capture (Unsupported). But I don't see how that can be since I have the only ATI card with the ability to get on FM radio (my ATI card is the AIW 9600 PRO). I'm confused and up a stump with this, please help.

strange...i tried playing the file with powerdvd and it worked perfectly fine. It seems that it must be windows media player AND winamp. I have gone through all the settings and have not found anything that would fix it. Now although i did reinstall both programs due to some issues, I'm going to uninstall and then reinstall them and see what happens.

Well, I don't need help anymore. I figured it out. It was a setting in Windows Media Player. Under Tools/Options/Performance, where it says video acceleration, uncheck "Use video mixing renderer". Simple as that , settings can be a bitch if u dont understand em all. Hope this helps.
