  1. I want to backup some of my XBOX games, where do I start? I have a reasonable knowledge of backing up my DVD's but haven't a clue where to start with these?

    Thanks for any help given

Well, first of all pc drives can't read an xbox game, so that's not an option.

You'd need to modify your console, then connect it to a pc to ftp the disc's image, which you could then burn with nero in UDF-ISO mode.

hey bigshot, that information is not correct. if you tried it then YOUR drive can't read the XBOX games. mine can. just make an image with any imaging program of your choice then burn with RecordNow

Can you give me the make and model of your drive that you can read and rip X-BOX games with? I would be very interested to know.

    Thanks,

A failsafe method is to FTP to your XBOX's D Drive, copy to your HD, make an image and burn. You will need a chipped or flashed xbox.

I thought DVD-ROMs could not read XBOX games properly because they are written from the outside in ? You need to read then flip the data because DVD burners burn inside out whereas XBOXs read outside in.

    Or am I mistaken ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  9. Cheers for the link mate, I will have a proper look through when I have a spare 10minutes. So in effect you just have to make a DVD-DVD copy of the required XBOX game, its weird why you can't access them in a DVD drive.

    Thanks again

jarvis, I hate to side against you just for the hell of it - so I won't.

XBox games are encrypted. You can't read them with 99+% of the drives on the market. Now _if_ you have a Samsung drive, and _if_ you have flashed it with the hacked firmware that CAN read those discs... then you still have to decrypt them.

    Sorry.

  11. So you saying that all you have to do, is

    1) Insert XBOX game
    2) Decrypt it
    3) Burn it

    >?

the other solution which is a feat of genius on the part of my friend (he's an electrical engineer) is to actually have the XBOX reader inside your computer

We took the shell off our XBOX and it has a Phillips DVDROM in it. I haven't tried to hook it up to my PC yet but it looks like a stock standard DVD-ROM. Obviously the laser engine must operate in different ways....
    If in doubt, Google it.

There's hardware encryption on the discs. In order to "have the XBox reader" in the computer, you need not only the DVD drive but the decoding chip(s).

    Ugly business that.

I know how he did it. There is some technical information on it. He probably had access to a dead XBox. Or too much cash, one or the other.
