Below I’ve uploaded the specs for 2 clips using virtual dub. Nero says the first clip isn’t VCD compliant and asks to re-encode. The second clip is exactly the same file, but I’ve re-encoded it using TMPEGinc (VideoCD PAL setting)
As you can see the file info is almost exactly the same. However Nero accepts the second file right away. Also, if I try to burn turning off the standard compliance thing, the file shoes up as being a lot bigger. So much so that the three files I am trying to burn in the first format show up as about 750MB. However, once re-encoded they fit nicely on the disk at about 690MB
My question: Is there a work around to get the first file format to burn straight away and fit onto the 700MB disk? Or am I going to have to re-encode all my mpegs! (As Nero does the same with most of my mpegs.)

I quit using Nero awhile back because of the annoying compliance issues. It sounds like Nero is recognizing an improperly muxed file which means padding will be added and not compliant. VCDEASY prompts to pad the file but burns it with no problem and yes when this happens it increases the file size, sometimes adds 100mb. Some times you can just demux the file w/ TmpgEnc and remux it and the problem fades because it rewrites part of the file and corrects it. But, sometimes it doesn't work and all you have to do is, while the file is demuxed, load the mp2 file into TmpGenc and re-encode it to an MP2 again. You should bring the bitrate down a notch if possible, otherwise leave it the same. The remux that new file with the video stream file. Then when you goto burn it it will do fine.
If that doesn't work then run the mpg file through vcdgear MPEG2MPEG and make sure 'fix errors' is checked and that might fix it.
Remeber any time you attempt a file repair or alter, play the file to make sure it still plays correctly before burning it.
Hope this helps.
One last thing. If you re-encoded the file and it worked why are you worried about the first file?? -
Hi, thanks for the tips. I’m sure that will save me some time! That’s why I was asking in the first place. It was taking me 40 minutes or so to re-encode each VCD sized mpeg. I’ve got over 12Gig to burn so I was looking for the quickest root possible! (I’ve been a bit lazy and let things build up!)
Hopefully your suggestions will certainly help.
Thanks again
