  1. Okay. Here is my problem. I have encoded quite a few movies from DivX avi files into VCD-compliant MPEG FILES. I have two DVD players. One is a dual VHS/DVD Sony player and the other is a cheap little Apex 1110W. Now, the Apex, amazingly enough will play just RAW Mpeg ISO files. Upon the first attempt with "The King of Comedy" (Stephen Chow) it worked flawlessly. I burned other movies in the same manner to see if it would work and no dice. I even tried burning them in Mode 2 X/A (whatever it is) at speeds 12x, 8x, 4x and finally 2x and I still got horrible playback.
So, MPEG ISO doesn't seem to work on the Apex even though it should. The other problem that arises is VCD playback. Whenever I encode a file myself, and burn it the playback is always choppy and horrible. I encode my files correctly.. check the frame rates and follow every single portion of the needed guides from this very site yet my VCDs turn to shite.
However, the VCDs will work just fine on the Sony. As for the Apex? The best it's done are some (S)VCD files that were formatted in .BIN and .CUE files.
Is it JUST the player acting up? Is my encoding wrong?
(Virtual Dub for the audio, then to TMPEGEnc for the actual encoding) Or do I need a new burning program? (Used Nero and VCDEasy to no avail)
If anyone has some feedback on this, whether it be about the player or my process please let me know.
Just in case you are curious:

    Win XP Pro

ANY help would be appreciated here.

  2. All I can do is suggest.

Sometimes putting a disc into the Apex can cause player settings to change...go over all to see if they are correct.

TmpGenc is bad about causing the playback problems w/ vcd's. I believe you should always encode the video and audio seperately then mux them w/ bbmpeg(not tmpgenc if you can help it). I muxed 2 different times w/ video that was encoded with TmpgEnc and the audio still went in and out, but when I muxed the exact same files w/ bbMPEG it was perfect. Go Figure.

Also, sometimes DVD players playback discs they shouldn't SOME OF THE TIME. It's better to be on the safe side and use discs that are compliant. I have a newer Apex that will play a raw MPG but sometimes it doesn't work and I am not surprised.

Try and encode in SVCD if you use more than 1 cd.

If this info isn't helpful go to H3LL.

    just kidding.

  3. Alright. I'll give this bbmpeg a try.

I still find it ODD that every VCD I make will work on the parents DVD player in the living room yet won't work correctly on my Apex. Perhaps I just need to use a different encoder. -sigh-
