    hi all!

My default apple dvd player won't recognise dvd-r disks!

The drive is just a dvd rom - Hitachi DVDRom GD-300, running in OS9.

Is there anything available that would make it recognise dvd-r's?

    many thanks!

    yes!

but you did raise my doubts!!

So I've just tried a film back-up in it and the drives spits it out straight away.

Acording to the system profiler its running:
    driver 1.4.8
    revision 020S

    on a Mac graphite G4.

i see nothing about your g4 other than you are in the old system

    anything preventing you from udpating?
perhaps in X it would work?

or perhaps like that post said the drive has just gone bad

these days you can get a good superdrive for cheap so you may consider just replacing it with a newer better drive.

yeah, you're quite right about just getting a new drive!

Its part of a big studio set-up, and the moment the cost of upgrading to OSX is proving to be quite restricitive at the moment - Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc, etc!

    Cheers anyway!

    ahhhh gotcha

well i suppose when you decide to get into the Adobe CS realm then you can add 10.3 to the list and be happy

    good luck!

sounds like its that drive however.
