Ok, this is a rather interesting bug of a problem. I have a problem with the ATI MMC system not recording stuff when using their scheduler. So I upgraded to MMC 7.9 for WinXP. No problems but now the scheduler won't save the shows I record.

To get around this problem I used several other software recording utilities from this site (PowerVCR II, TMPeg, etc.) The weird thing is that the video would record but the sound wouldn't. I checked the volume settings, the MPEG settings, everything! I eventually found a work around but I was hoping that someone might be able to point me to a permanent solution.

The workaround is that I can hear and record video with audio just fine with the other programs AS long as I have opened ATI MMC TV program first and then closed it down. If I do that, it works but if I shut down the program and reopen it, there is no audio until I shut it down, open up ATI MMC TV program, shut it down, then open up the other TV program; then I have audio again. Weird! This means that when I open up Power VCR II to schedule recording events, I have to shut it down, run ATI MMC TV program, and then shut it down. Then when the scheduler runs PowerVCR to record the show, it works fine.

Does anyone know what I can do to not have to use this workaround? My system specs are as follows:

WinXP Pro, Duron 1GHz, 256megs ram, ATI TV WONDER, built in sound and graphics card.

Oh, the ATI TV WONDER audio out is connected to the CD audio in on the built in sound card. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me with this.

Your WINDOWS sound settings are not set properly. ATI MMC overrides Windows settings, hence it works fine with ATI MMC open.

Which settings does it override and why does running ATI MMC first fix the audio problem for the other video capture programs when I open them right after running ATI MMC?

I've looked under the advance options in the volume control panel from the Windows control panel and made sure that the Audio CD volume tag is not at Mute or turned off. The record section of the audio settings also has the Audio CD tag set correctly. What other settings could be affecting it?

ATI MMC overrides it because it's dummy-proof that way.

It's merely the sound properties of Windows. There are also some registry hacks for the ATI sound settings, but I'm not sure if those are only for MMC. I've never needed it.
