    Ugh.
What brands are successful when trying to make a general VCD or SVCD?

The only thing I can use that works reliably in my Sony DVD Player is CDRW discs.

From my past experience, it depends on your player. My first standalone was supposed to play cdrw discs, but I tried a bunch of brands and nothing worked. I finally bought a KLH(it was really cheap) and it plays everything I throw at it.

Yeah. I just tried 2 different Sony DVD Players.

The first one played a 1st Generation CDRW.

A second Generation CDRW would not play (the same CDRW erased and reburned).

The second player played the 2nd Generation CDRW.

Neither would play a Memorex CD-R Blank.

Does Dye color make a difference?

  4. My apex ad660 tend to have issues with Mem CDRW, the pic randomly pixilizes but if you play the file again, it may or may not happen. This only happens with CDRWs not my CDRs. So yeah its possible the player just doesnt care for a type of disc. My player reads all 3 brands of CDRs I used perfectly(even the cheap media worked!).

  5. What is the model number of your Sony DVD player?

Many of the DVP-S models and some of the DVP-NS models cannot play CD-R discs, but they can play CD-RW discs.

We have a Sony DVP-S360 in the family. It reads Memorex CD-RW High-Speed discs with no problem. And it will read just about any other brand or speed of CD-RW you throw at it. But the only CD-R it will ever read is a Taiyo Yuden burned at 1X or 2X. And that's interesting, because it will play CompUSA DVD+RWs without any problem.

  6. I have a similar but strange problem.

i have a pioneer dvd player which played rewritable cds. after some time it stopped playing them, it would play only the audio of a vcd and loop the first 2-3 seconds continuously.

i fail to understand what went wrong. is there some setting or adjustment i need to change?
