Which should I go for ? 2 halfs of a move burned as svcd or 2 halfs of the movie done as cvd(352x576) and authored as a dvd. The problems with svcd menus and ac3(not allowed) are bad, but the extra space for mode2 (15%) is v good. CVD is nearly the same quality and can be authored as a std dvd with AC3 sound, however you can only burn in mode1, thereby losing a fair chunk of space??? I am leaning towards svcd as the quality is great.

With 4x CDRW Dual mode drives being delivered for $100, it's a no brainer. You buy a burner.
Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of SVCD and VCD backups. But once you burn a RITEK at 4x, you can't ever go back to SVCD. Typical xSVCD backup took a total of 10 hours (2-pass VBR). DVDShrink usually takes 15 minutes (basically it's ripping) to a max of 1 hour (Deep Analysis and Transcoding). Then 14 minutes to burn.
I can game now!!!! LOLOLOL, no more queueing up my encodes at night then going to bed. I've got another 30 DVD's to backup than my whole collection (about 150 at this point) is on DVDR and the originals go back in the vault (fireproof filing cabinet, seriously heavy mother). To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan
