The maximum number of tracks is 99; I dont know if there is a max number of entrypoints per track.

I'm sure its safe to say you can fit at least 98 entrypoints per MPEG track. If you want more than 98, I ask you: do you plan to watch the MPEG, or just skip through it?

I mean, if you had one MPEG that filled the entire 79 minute disc, and you put one entrypoint every one minute, you'd have 78 entrypoints. Thats plenty!

  5. I'm just trying to learn this stuff and wanted to throw that out there... call it just trying to learn as much info as I can.

I'm considering making a VCD of nothing but 30 second clips... on a 80 minute CD, that's approx 160 clips (give or take for VCD files and differences in clip sizes). Can a CD even hold 160 MPG files, or is it limited to 99? Thus if I needed to combine them to one MPG file, that'd be 160 chapters... could I do that many? If limited to 98, that'd be fine, I'd just have to change things up some. Could I do two tracks (two different MPG files), each with 80 chapters in it? Hmm... any info would be great.

  6. I have created VCD with 45 tracks (45 MPEG files). It works. Never try 99.
Has anyone try 99 (or more) tracks? Just curious to know.

The VCD standard provides for only up to 99 tracks, one of which is that track that contains the VCD support files (CDi, etc). The other 98 tracks are for MPEG and CDDA content. Within each MPEG track you can have a bunch of entrypoints, but again I dunno the number, although I'm sure it's been stated in this forum at some point (do a search on ENTRYPOINTS and surf the billions of messages on it).

I'd recommend you combine the 160 MPEG files into two giant MPEG files and drop eighty entrypoints in each. Use VCDImager or VideoPack 4 for that, either is easy. Philips Toolkit should also allow for that, but I took one look at that software and decided it wasn't really for me.

  8. Red Book supports a maximum number of 99 tracks on a CD. VCDs have the first physical track dedicated to logical data and information. Thus, you can have 98 separate video tracks.

In terms of entrypoints, you can have a maxium of 500 entrypoints per disc. Read the VCDImager manual for more information.
