  1. Im in australia and just taken ownership of a region 1 dvd becuase it wasn't availble in any other regions. I have a pc with a sony dru510a dvd burner with + and - support. what i want to do is convert it from the region1 to region 4 so i can play it in a normal tv dvd player. im guessing i will need to rip the data from the dvd to hard drive then re-encode to region 4 and put back on a dvd but have no idea how to achieve this. any help would be much appreciated. thanks

You dont need to 'make it region 4'. You only need to remove region 1 (ie, then by default it is playable in all regions)
Rip it to hard drive with DVD Decrypter.
    Transcode it with DVD Shrink.
    Burn it with whatever.
There are guides here on how to do this.

Don't worry about the DVD being NTSC and you living in PAL land. Your DVD player and TV will more than likely cop it as NTSC.
If not, then check back here on NTSC to PAL conversions (not so simple).

  6. I've never actually had to use anythng other than DVDshrink to rip a DVD so far, then burn with whatever you normally use, or I geuss Dycrypter burns too.
