Win98SE, AMD 1Ghz, 768 Ram, AIW128, 40 Gig WD boot, 60 gig 2nd channel for capture, both ATA 66. VIA MB with AC97 sound. Capturing primarily digital(?) cable thru S-video connection. VDUB compatability mode or ATI yuv12 gives perfect AVI, hit 4 gig limit in 2 to 6 minutes @ 720x480. Streaming or striping Vdub drops 10% of frames, climbing gradually to 30% or higher after a few minutes. Have tried Huffy, reformat and reinstall, latest drivers from ATI made it worse.

Determined that capture at 720x480, MPEG1, I-frame only, 99 Motion, bitrate 9, using MMC 7.1, gave approx. 1 hr capture for 4 gig file. Just slightly jerky, although processing bact to an AVI (or Frameserving) with VDUB gave results equal to my best AVI, only longer, not sure why? Haven't seen anyone in posts doing it this way.

Questions - Is bitrate over 8000 not necessary? or should I give the compression program the most to work with? Same question with resolution?
For TV playback on standalone DVD, should anything encoded at x480 be left interlaced? If de-interlaced, do at capture or in processing?
